Southend Wastewater Treatment Upgrades

Southend Lagoon

Client: Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation

UMA was retained by Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation to review the sewage disposal system for the remote northern community of Southend. The project included making recommendations on the potential relocation of the sewage lagoon, as well as detailed design of a two cell aerobic lagoon, 1,800 meter access road, 3,200 meter sewage forcemain and primary pumping station. Located within the pre-cambrian shield, this project posed many unique challenges. Through the use of innovative techniques, the completion of the Southend lagoon provides the community an opportunity to continue to grow and build housing for its people.

The project is one of the largest sewage disposal system projects completed for Indian and Northern Affairs Canada in Saskatchewan. Located 225 km north of LaRonge in Northern Saskatchewan, the growth of the community of Southend was restricted as they needed a wastewater treatment upgrade to allow the community to grow. With the project completed, the growth and economy of the Southend community will continue to expand.
