Village of Griesbach

Client: Canada Lands Company CLC Limited

Working with Canada Lands Company, UMA is the prime consultant in transforming Griesbach, a former military base, into an urban mixed-use community called the Village at Griesbach. 

This redevelopment is an excellent example of the adaptive reuse of an existing square mile site in the heart of Edmonton.  Griesbach represents a sustainable and innovative use of urban land and infrastructure that will ultimately provide a pedestrian friendly community for more than 12,000 people.  The Village at Griesbach is Edmonton’s only contemporary urban village that has fully embraced the concept of "New Urbanism".   

UMA is prime consultant for Stages 1-4, providing engineering and landscape architecture services.  The coordination of engineering design and construction on a project of this scale has its challenges, including maintaining services to the existing community.  Other unique aspects of this development are minimizing utility hardware, recycling of on-site materials, house relocation and demolition. 

UMA received a Consulting Engineers of Alberta Award of Excellence (Community Development) for their work at the Village at Griesbach.
