Carseland-Bow River Headworks
Client: Alberta Infrastructure & Transportation
The Carseland-Bow River Headworks is a complex water delivery system consisting of a diversion structure on the Bow River, a large, 65 km long, conveyance canal and three storage reservoirs. Reach 3, 4 and 6 represent approximately 40% (25 km) of the total canal system.
The problems associated are limited capacity, seepage, high water table, sloughing, bank stability at natural water course crossings, deteriorated structures, and no maintenance access along the right bank.
UMA has provided Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation with separate preliminary design reports for rehabilitation of each of the three Reaches. Reach 3 was constructed in 2003 and Reach 4 in 2005. UMA provided the final design and construction administration services for both of these Reaches as well as for Reach 6. Reach 6 is partially complete with the two remaining contracts scheduled for final construction in 2007/2008.
The work also includes two major check drop structures with automation and controls and several turnouts and drain inlets.
