VIA Rail Asset Management
Client: VIA Rail Canada Inc.
Since 2000, UMA has been providing engineering services related to asset management for VIA Rail’s Alexandria and Smiths Falls subdivisions.
As part of this project, UMA carries out periodic inspections of track, roadway and signal installations on VIA-owned subdivisions in Ontario and Quebec to ensure compliance with prescribed safety standards.
UMA's responsibilities include:
- Semi-annual inspections of all track and signal components including rail, ties, rail fasteners, switches, ballast, sub-grade, bridges, culverts, grade crossing protection and sightlines at both protected and unprotected crossings
- Drainage and fencing
- Wayside equipment inspections
- Reviewing track geometry car results
- Reviewing rail test car inspection reports
- Reviewing all records maintained by Maintenance-of-Way and Signal Maintenance employees to ensure compliance with Transport Canada rules and regulations
- Post-inspection reports that certify the integrity of the subdivision area infrastructure and its overall status.
