North East Stoney Trail (NEST)

The Alberta government has signed a 30-year contract with the Stoney Trail Group to design, build, operate and partially finance Stoney Trail from its junction with Deerfoot Trail to 17 Avenue SE.
UMA is owners’ engineer for the NE Stoney Trail (NEST) project. This project includes 21 km of four and six-lane roadway and 23 bridge structures, including six interchanges.
As owners’ engineer, UMA is responsible for:
- Assisting owner in preparation of the RFQ and technical requirements
- Reviewing submittals during the pursuit phase to determine if they meet technical requirements
- Preparing overall preliminary cost estimates (cost comparator) to be used to determine if submitted price reasonable.
- Reviewing final submissions for compliance with technical requirements
- Reviewing detailed designs and other submissions from the selected proponent for conformance with technical requirements
- Auditing construction and processes for compliance with technical requirements and designs
- Providing miscellaneous engineering services to the owner as required.
- Attending weekly and other meetings as required.
This project is scheduled for completion in November 2009.
