University of Saskatchewan Aboriginal Student Space Green Roof
Client: University of Saskatchewan
UMA is developing the conceptual and detailed design for the ground level landscaping and green roof of the new University of Saskatchewan Aboriginal Student Space.
The ground level landscape design will address the context of the building’s setting within the University of Saskatchewan and compliment the building’s location on campus as a welcoming place for students of Aboriginal ancestry.
The green roof will enhance aesthetic appeal and improve views from other buildings. It will also provide a number of functional benefits including lower energy inputs due to enhanced insulation and reduced runoff that will minimize the impact on the campus storm sewer system.
As well as incorporating plants native to the region, sage and sedums are proposed for the green roof and sweetgrass for ground level planting design. These plants will be used for ceremonial purposes, enhancing the cultural and social significance of this project.
