Mine Freeze Piping System Expansion
Client: Cameco Corporation
UMA was commissioned by Cameco Corporation to complete evaluations and modifications to their existing secondary brine distribution system at the McArthur River Mine in Saskatchewan.
The brine piping systems are used to freeze the ore body and prevent infiltration of water into the mine. UMA completed several projects involved in the expansion of this system including:
- Extension of the system for freezing of Pillar No. 5 including design of a new low-profile well head for improved installation and maintenance.
- An evaluation of the entire system including development of a hydraulic model using PIPE-FLO Professional Version 8.
- Extension of the existing freeze piping system for the development of mining Zone 4.
UMA also was responsible for preparing piping and instrumentation diagrams, piping drawings and material specifications.
