Yukon River Bridge
Client: Yukon’s Highways and Public Works
UMA is now working on the $540,000 design phase contract for the Yukon River Bridge at Dawson City. The bridge will help eliminate long line-ups at the existing ferry in Dawson City and will eliminate delays that occur each winter before an ice bridge can be built. Our team will review the preliminary design concepts created in the mid-1990s, assess the configuration and location of the bridge, review the use of steel and concrete, and then prepare the final drawings to take the project to the tender stage. Our team will also provide technical support for public consultation and meetings with major stakeholders and we will coordinate a wide array of project-related studies, including roadway design, hydrotechnical, geotechnical, environmental, architectural, risk assessment and seismic effects.
For the bridge design, UMA has partnered with BP-TEC and three Yukon-based subconsultants. The estimated construction cost for the project is $25 to 30 million.
“UMA is a highly regarded and well-qualified firm to oversee the design phase of this project. We are pleased to be moving ahead with the initial bridge work and we were very pleased with the proposals we received. Of the seven submissions, UMA’s proposal was the strongest overall and scored particularly well in terms of experience, the project team and methodology.”
