Hydrocarbons (UMATAC)
UMA has worked in the oil sands industry since the early 1970s, providing pioneering work in oil sands processing as well as construction management services for the latest generation of oil sands facilities .
Our UMATAC Division uses the Alberta Taciuk Process (ATP), a unique dry thermal process that produces oil from natural resource oil sands, oil shales and other organics-bearing materials. ATP was developed to treat oil sands, heavy oil, and oil shales for production of oil, and contaminated soils, sludges and other wastes for remediation clean up. Imagine a tar sands plant of the future which has minimal need for water in its process – this is UMATAC’s ATP technology.
UMATAC supplies the ATP technology to its clients under license. As the developer and supplier of the ATP technology, UMATAC custom designs the processor and plant equipment to the unique requirements of clients, the host feed materials and the intended application.
